What one person interprets as suspicion may be understood by another as memory: the knowledge passed down through families, communities and generations about how Blackness has been perceived, questioned and treated in America.

That memory doesn't appear from nowhere.

It has a history.

This piece strips the original idea down to its essential words. There is no illustration and no lengthy explanation printed on the garment. Instead, three monumental words carry the argument:

SUSPICION.

HISTORICAL

MEMORY.

The narrow vertical composition uses distressed aged-ivory typography against washed black, giving the design the character of an archival broadside or museum exhibition graphic while remaining unmistakably contemporary streetwear.

Look closer and two tiny sapphire-blue butterflies emerge from the typography—one partially concealed within SUSPICION, the other tucked beside MEMORY.

They aren't meant to be noticed first.
