Every community has a story.
Every neighborhood has a history.
Every opportunity—and every obstacle—has roots.
Too often, history is taught as a collection of dates to memorize or famous names to remember. But history is much more than that.
History explains why some neighborhoods look the way they do.
Why wealth is distributed unevenly.
Why highways run through certain communities.
Why some schools have more resources than others.
Why families inherit opportunity—or barriers.
The past didn't disappear.
It became the present.

History isn't just about presidents, wars, and legislation.
It's also about ordinary people.
Parents.
Teachers.
Business owners.
Churches.
Neighborhoods.
Children.
Communities.
The decisions made decades ago continue to shape the lives we live today.
Understanding those decisions helps us better understand ourselves.
History doesn't tell us what to think. It helps us understand how we got here.

We often ask questions like:
- Why is there a racial wealth gap?
- Why are some neighborhoods thriving while others struggle?
- Why does homeownership matter?
- Why do some communities have fewer resources?
These questions don't have simple answers.
They require historical context.
Looking only at today's outcomes without examining yesterday's policies gives us an incomplete picture.
History provides that missing context.
